While it has been conclusively demonstrated that psychometric tests can significantly improve human resource decisions and result in productivity gains, such benefits can only be achieved by competent use of these complex instruments. Inappropriate use can not only totally negate the benefits of using valid selection procedures but it can also have an adverse effect on staff motivation. Competent use of psychometric instruments not only requires expertise in selecting, administering and scoring tests but also the interpretation of the results within the assessment context. Correct interpretation requires an understanding of population statistics and measurement theory. Responsible and ethical use of tests requires an appreciation of the limitations of tests, how to integrate complex information and present the results to test taker and decision maker alike. And that is only half the story!

Not surprisingly, therefore, Arabian Assessment & Development Centre limits access to psychometric test materials to qualified users. In the UK the qualification system has been formulated by the professional body for Psychologists, the British Psychological Society (BPS).

BPS Certificates of Competence in Occupational Testing Levels A and B
The BPS has established two principal qualification levels, termed Level A & B respectively. Level A covers the requirements to use aptitude and ability tests whereas Level B, which builds upon Level A, covers the requirements for using personality instruments. Two Level B qualifications are available. The Intermediate Level B has been formulated principally, but not exclusively, for users of a substantive personality instrument. The full Level B is directed primarily at Chartered Psychologists and other professionals who offer consultancy services and hence require a broader, more general level of competence in applying personality assessment techniques in a wide range of situations.

Combined Level A and Level B (Intermediate) Course
Arabian Assessment & Development Centre’s combined Level A and Level B (Intermediate) course allows you to become qualified to use both Level A and B tests. By combining the two levels in a single course, delegates are able to obtain a more thorough grounding in the theory and application of psychological assessment as a whole. This not only saves time, but also avoids the unnecessary duplication that occurs when the two levels are separated by weeks or months.

Who the Course is For
The combined course is designed for human resource professionals, line managers and psychologists who wish to use tests as an aid to selection, development and career counseling.

Course Objectives

To provide an in-depth grounding in the theory and practice of ability and personality testing.
To enable delegates to gain access to the widest range of tests of ability, aptitude, interest, values and personality.
To equip delegates with the knowledge required to critically evaluate psychometric tests for specific applications.
To enable delegates to successfully implement objective assessment methods for selection, development, counseling and guidance.
To provide a thorough and objective overview of the assessment market.
To assess the role of computers in assessment.
To enable delegates to qualify for the Level A and Level B (Intermediate) Certificates of Competence in Occupational Testing and to be included on the BPS Register of Competence (at a small additional charge, payable to the BPS)

Language and Technical Ability
The course is conducted in English, so requires delegates to have an excellent understanding of both written and spoken English. Successful completion of the course requires delegates to be able to apply themselves fully to the evening work which is set every day and to read and understand the comprehensive course manual. It is our experience that delegates who are fully committed to this for the duration of the short course will have a much greater chance of successful course completion than delegates who schedule other commitments during the course. For delegates who have difficulty understanding the concepts during the course, one-on-one tuition can be arranged after the course for an additional fee.

Cost and Bookings

COST

The cost for the course is AED 12,000, this includes all course manuals and materials, course refreshments and a light lunch on each day of the course. The above fee represents a one-third saving off the price for exactly the same course in the UK (excluding airfare!). Course fees must be paid in full prior to the dispatch of pre-course materials.

DEPOSIT

We are expecting a high demand for places on this course, leading us to introduce a deposit payment system. In order to confirm your place on this course, we require a deposit of AED 4,000. We regret that we are unable to confirm any place until deposits have been paid. Further, we cannot send out pre-course materials and questionnaires until course fees have been paid in full. The balance (of AED 8,000) of the invoice should be settled 30 days prior to the commencement of the course. We would encourage all potential delegates to confirm their places on this course at the earliest possible opportunity in order to avoid disappointment.

REFUNDS

Whilst we are happy to accept substitute delegates where necessary, we regret that we are unable to refund deposits or course fees in the event that a delegate is unable to attend. It should be noted that payment of the deposit confirms course place and the remainder of the course fee is payable thereafter whether a delegate attends or not.
