Initially an Electronics Engineer specialising in avionic and aerospace systems, Carl accepted an opportunity to fulfill a long held ambition to work in education by accepting a Commission in the Royal Air Force in 1989. After completing a full time teaching qualification in 1990, Carl initially lectured in maths and electronics at an RAF Technical School for a year before being appointed to a post as specialist lecturer in electronics at the RAF College Cranwell’s Department of Specialist Ground Training. It was during his two and a half year stay here that he completed a Masters Degree in the Psychology of Education at the University of Nottingham
In 1994 Carl was appointed Officer Commanding Training Support at the aircrew school at Finningley before the unit closed and moved to Cranwell. Carl moved with the unit before retiring from the RAF in 1996 to become a lecturer in further and higher education in Lincolnshire.
Over the next four years, whilst continuing to lecture in maths, science and psychology, Carl developed a widening client base of companies for whom he provided consultancy on a range of managerial and H.R. issues. To support this activity, Carl completed a further master’s degree at Birkbeck College, University of London, in Occupational Psychology.
Carl joined Psytech in Oct 2000 to supplement and develop their highly successful training programmes and to develop his occupational psychology experience further. His interest in academic pursuits continue as he studies for a PhD, again at the University of Nottingham, researching the barriers to widening participation in education using Information Technology.
