
After completing his first degree in psychology at the University of East London, Ross started working in the charities sector advocating on behalf of disabled people in the workplace. He returned to South Bank University in London to train as a Careers Counsellor a few years later. After working as a specialist Career Counselor for young prisoners in London and publishing for the UK government on engaging young prisoners into long term employment; he moved to Dubai in 2001, working for the Higher Colleges of Technology.
Ross’ formal training as an Occupational Psychologist took place at the Institute of Work, Health and Organisations at the University of Nottingham in 2005, subsequently finding a post-masters chartership training place with the Career Consultancy and Social Enterprise, CXL. His Career Development website project ‘C-xtra’ is widely admired in UK education. This led to the UK’s governing body for Career Development, the Institute of Careers Guidance, awarding him a ‘National Career Award 2007’ for his psychometric research into Career Development. This psychology website is now being translated into three European languages. He was invited to be a visiting associate of the International Centre for Guidance Studies at the University of Derby to further research retention.
After training and teaching a wide variety of audiences from psychologists to prisoners, he describes delivering British Psychological Society qualifications as:
